So theres a 84 ranger for sale. It runs, has a 5.0 with holley 4barrell carb. All it needs is the carb dialed in. With a c4 trans. It also has the rearend out of an old falcon.
The guy wants $500 for it, he said that somehting came up and needs money. Do you think thats a good deal, or two many problems to deal with.

How can we know? The truck might be a rust bucket that's sat in a cow pasture for 10 years and thus only worth what the going scrap prices bring. You have only given the bare facts here. only that it runs ? I don't know what kind of mechanic you are (if at all, given your question) You may have to tow it to a shop that could end up charging you the moon to get it road worthy at $80 per hour. I don't know about you, but some $500 deals are deals, and others aren't. Pictures would help.

The reason there is no pics or even much info is i talked to the guy across the phone. I have mechanical skill and was wanting to do a 5.0 swap myself. He said that all the truck needed was the carb tuned because it would load up at low rpm,, so at a light you would have to give it gas to be just above idle. I know threads like this are always annoying. But i will try to get pics of it tommorow when i go look at it.

It sounds like he's got a sticky float, trash in a needle/seat, floats set too high, or too much fuel pressure. It's up to you, can you afford to blow $500--- just in case it turns out to be a pig ?

If nothing else part the truck out. you will be getting a 5.0L and a C4 for $500. Worth it to me. Where I'm sitting at in florida that seems like a decent deal. hopfully the block and case isn't cracked, you can always rebuild!
