Whats it hurt to dive with my MAF unpluged? MPG?

My truck has been running like crap. Looses all power have to pull over all the time. Well I found out it run perfect with the MAF unpluged. Does that hurt anything? MPG maby....
 
I believe its bad for the motor in the long term. I am sure someone with more knowledge like Big Jim will come along and elaborate but its pretty safe to say that your best bet is to fix the actual problem and not drive around with it unplugged for long.
 
The truck wont know how much air it's getting, probably run super rich or act up in the long run.

clean your filter or maf or get a new maf if yours has failed.


some will run fine without it depending on how the pcm is calibrated in the short term. but that also will be weather dependent as well
 
When the maf is disconnected the computer puts the engine in "maf disconnected mode" Which is the same as it was at the factory before the first start. The computer relys entirely on the RPM and the temperature to adjust the mixture.
I'd think it would be Ok to get her home thataway, but I wouldn't make a habit of driving without it running as built. Surely it is far too rich without the maf.
Cleaning should be done with chemicals specialy for maf cleaning. Most carb cleaners leave a residue that quickly traps contaminates and the maf quits working again.
Everytime the key is turned off the maf gets a jolt of voltage that is intended to burn off any contaminates caught on the wire. These stick to the residue left by most cleaners and don't burn off...

i had a bad maf i was getting 9 mpg on the highway and i normally got 20. i got a new maf and back to get around 20 on the highway
 
unplugging the MAF will make the PCM use pre-set values or use the MAP sensor if equipped. it won't horribly affect you, but i'd recommend replacing the MAF when possible
 
have the same problem, cleaned the maf sensor. That didn't work, bought a new one, still didn't work, very confused..
 
I found a solution for my problem today, I don't know how this ties in together but I also had a squeak in the serpentine belt. I bought a belt dressing and it stopped the squeaking...I thought about it and was like what the hay, I plugged the sensor back up and bam. it worked. The belt still slips every now and then and I'm thinking about replacing the serpentine belt and the tension pulley because I can't tighten it anymore, the screw is getting stripped and the spring isn't working like it should
