Hello, I'm new. I bought a 88 ranger for my winter beater . It's 4 cyl/ 5 spd. 4x4 and so damn underpowered i have yet to ever use 5th gear in the 2 months I've owned it. I detest driving it anywhere because i have to catch 2nd just to make it over some of the hills around here, I believe the motor is on its way out. I'm not looking for some crazy big block swap or anything But my buddy has a bronco 2 with rotted body and a v6. 2.9 I think? Will the 2.9 drop right in? I've checked a few Google searches and everything is pertaining to a v8 swap.

Thanks

Yeah, 2.9 should go in. If you do the swap though, keep the BII handy because you'll probably need a lot parts from it.

Thank you, do you happen to know what parts I may need from it? The bronco is about 45 minutes from me so I'd like to get everything I may need from it .

i would just bring the entire bronco home with me, that way if i need some small insignificant part that is super duper important than i wont have to drive an hour and a half to go get it, just bring the whole thing home and you wont have anything to worry about....

Yea man, no matter what you will ALWAYS forget at least one little thing that will hold you up. Or maybe thats just my luck.

Wish I could bring it home, that would make life simple. unfortunately I live in the middle of town and my little garage is only big enough to get my ranger in there to work ...

If you can't take the whole B2 with you, then I would take EVERYTHING under the hood. Engine, Tranny, Transfer case, wiring harness, radiator, EVERYTHING. Clean out the engine bay down to bare metal.

I think you'll want to do a bit of digging around on this site. I've only recently re-joined myself, but I seem to recall that the 4-cyl trannies don't bolt up to any of the V6's. That shouldn't be a problem, though, since you have access to an ENTIRE donor vehicle.

+1

You don't want to get it all in there then have to drive back to get something stupid, or obvious, like a damn computer in my case! lol

I mean hey, it's a donor vehicle, so let it donate all it can!

Maybe you'll get lucky and find some 4.10's and L/S axles under the B2, ya never know...

But ideally you want the entire vehicle! It would make it so much easier!
