Can anyone tell me or show me a picture of a starter from a 4.0 and point to the posts that are positive and negative?

I am trying to use the old one that I took out, but still works and make it into a hand crank generator that I saw someone use one for on youtube....it seemed to work really well but I hooked up 2 wires to it earlier and then the other end to a voltmeter but got no readings even turning it both ways...not sure if the wires were mixed up or what.

The + post is the positive.. IT should be marked.. If not then look at the size of the posts and the cable ends. The positive post and cable are larger in diameter than the negative post and cable end.. So it is really hard to get them on the wrong posts.

i think he is asking where the positive and negative posts on the starter itself is.

OP: to answer your question. the negative is the body of the starter itself and the positive would be the pole that you attach the starter cable to
