i found a 4.0 but the guys said the head gaskets need replaced. would sell me the engine for $75. sounds good just wondering how hard it would be to replace the head gaskets?

thanks

How do they KNOW it is only the head gaskets? I think I would look around and pass on an engine that needs no telling how much work!

if you're gonna replace the head gaskets, ya might as well replace the other gaskets, as well. the full gasket kit is like $150 at advance auto parts. not saying it'd be necessarily easy to do but if you pay a total of around $225 for a good 4.0, i'd do it.

I'll say it again

How does anyone KNOW for sure that head gaskets is all an ailing engine needs? What if there is a crack in the block? What if the heads are ruint? There is no method to know what is going on in there until it is apart and closely checked.

thanks to both of you. if i was to get it and replace the head gaskets, i was already thinking of doing all the other ones as well. i agree on how do you know it is only the head gaskets and i was going to ask the guy that has it for sale some other questions before i was to buy it as to how he knows it is just the head gaskets and why he didn't replace them? i do think he did a V-8 swap though also. just have to do some more checking. thanks again.
