I have searched but cant find the specific answers im looking for. Working on a 94 4.0 4x4.

ok i know that you have to basically pull the motor but im really dont want to unbolt the tranny. I have the cherry picker bolted up and have it lifted to the point the intake is against the firewall and i still dont have the room to pull the pan out. all of the posts that i have read says that you dont need to actually pull the motor and that it is possible to do. Im only shy about 3-4in. from the pan being able to slide out if that.

1. Do i need to unbolt the drive shafts to give it room to slide forward so i can bring the motor up more?

2. Do i need pull the intake manifold off to give it a little more room.

what am i missing why cant i get this dang thing out.

You

A. Pull the motor

B. Lift the motor then pull the trans so you can slide the pan out the back.

Your choice.

ok so the tranny has to be seperated from the motor for it to work without completely pulling the motor.

thanks for the help man i really appreciate it

And at that point you really might as well just lift it the rest of the way out of the truck and save yourself some aggravation....

i ended up just sliding the gasket in under the oil pump and cleaning the surfaces of the oil pan and motor and bolting it back up...worked great seeings i couldnt get to all the tranny bolts with the tools i had.
