Best way to ship a transmission

Has anybody ever shipped a transmission? I am wondering what is the best way to ship my FM145. Do I build a secure box for it? What carrier is the cheapest/best? Thanks

build a simple pallet from spruce 2x3, then use that pallet wrap
(It's like Saran wrap from hell).

a mazda trans which is a bit heavier runs 97lbs and ships to most
of the country for <$90

Make sure the bottom of the box or pallet does not let any parts hang down.
Remember, a fork truck will try picking it up by sliding forks underneath.

As for bolting/strapping it to the pallet, remember inertia will make the tranny seem 5-10 time heavier during bumps and stops., so the straps or bolts should be able to stop 1000 lbs from rolling off the pallet.

they sell 2x3's at lowes for about $1.73, you could build a crate for less than $4 and still have wood leftover

At work, we usually get our used transmissions shipped to us (and returned) like this:

Sitting on a 2x3 pallet with nothing hanging below the slats. Then I would take the nylon flat shipping strapping and secure the transmission to the pallet in at least 3-4 places. Then I would take some shrink wrap and go absolutely crazy wrapping it up in the direction perpendicular to the fork holes in the pallet. (So it can be easily moved with a forklift or pallet jack) That way of shipping it uses the strength of the straps to hold the transmission down and then the shrink wrap is there for a weather resistant cover, to hold in any wires or linages that may still be attached, and as an extra level of security to keep it in place.

This thing really isnt that heavy. I can carry the thing around myself. Does it really have to go on a pallet for a forklift.

probably not, on second thought, just throw it in a cardboard box with some of those styrofoam peanuts. lol, what else would you do?
