Is there a rule of thumb for when driveshafts need to be lengthened?

For example...1-3 inch lift (stock shafts will work) or 4 inches and higher need longer shafts?

Looking into a rough country 4" at some point and want to get my ducks in a row. My main reason for looking at this one, was $$$. Any one have experience with these, either good or bad?

I've done some searchin, and some folks are saying they'll punch a hole in your front diff. Whats that about?

Thanks.

Rough country changed their bracket design recently, so they no longer do that. That also only applies to RBV's with the D35 front axle, you have the D28.

With any lift, you pretty much get what you pay for.

Thanks for the input.

As far as the driveshafts go, any thoughts on when those would need to be lengthened/modified?

Generally you should be able to go up to 6" of lift before you need to lengthen a driveshaft.

if your b2 still has the CV style driveshaft its going to make grinding noises even with 2" lift. You wanna upgrade to a heavy duty u-joint style for sure. I have an 88 b2 with the u-joint d-shaft and 7" lift rear and its long enough.

I have the d28 axle and the RC 4" bracketry and its worked great for me. If you dont wanna punch a hole in the diff, use the bumpstop drops in the kit.
