Tire help, got some new wheels and I need 2" clearance

I posted this earlier, but it never showed up so I'll do it one more time.:icon_confused: I bought some jeep wheels today and the front ones get into the fender just a bit. The wheels are the same size as the old ones but the tire is about 1" wider and taller and it's scrubbing the fenders in the front. It needs about 2 inches to be good. Anybody got any ideas on a cheap easy fix till I put on a lift kit?:icon_confused:

body lift? can be done easily in an afternoon
 
I thought about it, but I don't want to mess up my lines till i get my bushwhacker flares.
 
Trim the fenders

2" suspension lift in the front (check out the cheap lifts thread in the suspension forum)

body lift (the most expensive option unless you do a hockey puck 1" lift) For a 2" lift you'll be around $100 unless you need new bushings too.
 
HAHAHAHA, I'm going to try the coil spacers thing and see what that gives me first.
 
I trimmed my fenders 2.5 inches front and back and it worked but I was closer to clearing than you.I think your on the right path trying for the spacer thing.
 
I think I am going to use a spacers under the front coil spring. I just have to figure what to use as the spacer that would give me 2 inches?
 
A good auto parts store would have the coil spring spacers. Some twist in to the coils with a half inch drive ratchet, others are all threads through two metal plates. They're 20 to 50 bucks or so, depending on which you opt for, but they're good for about an 1 and half inch lift. I ran 31's on my 86 with the twist in kind, but if you get real rough with 'em they tend to pop out, the all thread kind stay in.
 
If you are going to use spacers, get the proper sized metal washers from a fastener store.I wouldn't use anything that goes in the coils.Do get an alignment afterward. A body lift might be cheaper in the long run.
