how do i replace a dipstick tube on a 92 4.0 out of a exploder? my buddys was pinched by the guys he bought his motor off of and when he pulled the dipstick the tube came right out:annoyed:

do i have to drop the pan?

I've ever seen are a friction fit. The tube itself is slightly larger than the hole it fits into. If yours is loose I think I'd be taking it and from the inside of the bottom I'd be widening it some so it would friction fit again when pressed in the hole.. If I never intended to open that engine I MIGHT JBWeld it in place..
In any event what I do is to get a SLEEVE.. a piece of pipe or even a SOCKET that would slide down to the bottom and then I pound on the sleeve..instead of trying to pound on the tube itself.

the tube is just a push fit, there's a bracket at the top of the tube to hold it in place, or supposed to be, which reminds me I have to repair the bracket on mine again.

Yes, the tube just pushes in to the block, no need to touch the pan. It has a bracket on the tube that fits on a stud near the egr that holds it down in.
