88 ford ranger 2.9 5 speed 265,000 miles- quit running, found bad fuel tank pump and broken connection at frame pump. replaced both and filter. Next no spark. Tested Ignition module(good)replaced pickup coil. Found high resistance in ground circuit at ignition module connector. Unplugged ECU, found out that ground goes through that, also found out I have spark when it is unplugged. Replaced ECU, now have good ground circuit, but still no spark when ECU is plugged in and no relay function. I did replace fuel pump relay but does not seem to work now. Where do I go next. Bad relays? wiring? another ECU? feel like I'm going in circles

Sounds like you replaced a bad ecu with a worse ecu. If you had access to an ecu that you knew was good, it would eliminate a LOT of possibilities and circles.
