i recently bought a 96 ranger with a 2.3. Its an automatic and i have no overdrive and when shifting from 2nd to 3rd it wont catch ive read several articals that say this could be electrical or vacuum i wanted to talk to someone that had the same problem if possible

I'd guess hydraulic or electric. possibly mechanical. Just because it's a 96 you can almost immediately rule out a vacuum problem just because the vac system doesn't really figure into the trans controls after 95.

Probably a sticky solenoid. Can't find my chart that tells me which one it might be though.

Tranny problem? just punch 'em in the adams apple.

AS for the sticky 2nd to 3rd gear on your ranger, change the fluid and filter on the transmission and check the connectors to any sensors/solenoids on the transmission for broken or loose wires.

Cutch, here's an easy way to fix you tranny problem: Swap it out to a manual one.

2.3/auto combos are mostly real dogs.
