so i just picked up a 1993 ranger with a 4.0 and auto trans. truck starts right up and runs great, once i get on the road it will not shift unless i do it manually and will die after a couple of minutes. i can wait about 10 to 15 minutes and it will start right back up. any ideas

i checked the iac, and the maf, both are good, and i tried spacing out the kick down cable with zip ties. i also pulled the valve body out of the trans to check for blown gaskets, supposedly the previous owners put in a shift kit recently, i replaced the filter and retorqued everything correctly.

anyone had this type of problem i have gone back 60 pages in this forum( 4.0 forum ) and found only two that were somewhat similar

anyone???? do i need to post more info:icon_confused:

Auto trans that won't shift could be a vacuum problem.

Dying could be the ICM; does it get spark right after dying when it won't start?

Can you hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds when you turn the key to Run without cranking?

its getting spark and the fuel pump is working just fine, cant find any vacuum leaks. think iam going to pull the vacuum module(acuator or what ever its called) on the side of the tranny tomorro. i guess not shifting could cause a stall but it doesnt explain no restart
