I recently bought a 2wd '93 Ranger that has a 4.0 and an automatic transmission. It most likely could use a new engine.

Will any OHV 4.0 work? No issues with bellhousing pattern? Balancing? Will my current accessories mount to it?

A guy on craigslist has a 4.0, but has no idea what it's from. He said the engine has "4.0 Liter" on it, I'm guessing maybe on the intake. My engine doesn't have "4.0 Liter" anywhere on it.

What are the chances this engine will work?

Anyone will. The ones after 95 have different sensors so just use your sensors.

You need a 4.0 out of any '90-'94 Ranger or '91-'94 Explorer. The '95+ are OBDII engines and have extra sensors that are required for the engine to run properly.
