i have a 98 rear whell drive ranger for a v6 i lost the vin numbers when scrapping the truck any help would be great
what are my gears please help?

does it have the tag on the rear diff? the first numbers on the lower left of the tag are the ratio.example- 3.73,or 4.10 if it has L,SL,or LS on the tag where the . would be its a limited slip axle.the first # is under the bolt head on a lot of tags also.

the tag was worn off so i didnt know if there was any other way i could get it

Count gear teeth (or driveshaft/axle rotations).
the driver's door tag has tranny and axle codes.look in the tech library for the charts to decode it.
