O.k., I have searched the forum and have found a few things to look at including the shift motor. Here is what my 88 B2 does. I guess I should mention it is the electric shift/push button 4x4. First off, the 4x4 lights on the push button module stay on when I start the B2. I am told that they should go off. When I push and hold them down they will go off but once I let up they go back on. Needless to say, the 4x4 doesn't engage. Tomorrow night I am going to run it out to my parent's so my dad can listen for any clicking from the motor when I start it. I do not hear anything inside the cab but my B2 has dual exhaust and is kind of loud. Also, I saw that a person should check the computer. Where is this located behind the driver's seat exactly? Any other advice anyone has would be great. Thanks.

O.k, I have an update. I bought a new 4x4 shift motor and hooked it up. I still didn't have anything. No clicking or noise while trying to engage the 4x4. One thing I did notice when I took off the old shift motor is that the transfer case is in 2 wheel drive. However, both my 4x4 lights on the push button controls stay lit up at all times like it is in 4 low. That is not the case. I am thinking possibly a new push button 4x4 control or the 4x4 computer. Any ideas?

the controller for an 88 b2 is in the center of the dash. you should see a big removable square in the center of the dash.
