What is Rep Power? I Googled it and got at least four differing answers.

People give you reputation points based on posts you make. So say you make some really good informative posts, people might give you reputation. Its like a ranking system kinda. People with higher reputation are "usually" more helpful or more knowledgable.

More rep you get the more you can give too (unless it's configured differently). So like when you get to 1000 rep maybe each rep you give that person gets 16 rep pts (hypothetical) etc.

As well, your name does not get signed to a rep so ... like when I give rep I like to put like +rep - nice post - dk etc

Edit: And if I get a rep from someone and they tag their name I usually give reps back.

You also can only rep a person once until you give like 10 more people rep (something like that).

I FINALLY found it in my control panel. It was completely hidden, you know, right on the first screen.

Again, thanks.

So how do the points translate to rep power?

It's a little different than what I'm used to but you will get mroe green bars when your rep grows or if it goes down they'll turn red. On the other forum I'm on that has Rep it just shows the bars on the left and in the control panel you can see your points so I'm not sure how this one is setup.

And yes, for anyone that DOESN'T know it's under the "User CP" link in the upper left :icon_thumby:

I don't mean the green bars though, I mean points. My CP says I have 10 points from two referrals but I only have one rep power. So whats the formula?

Yeah, that's what I was saying I wasn't sure about. Maybe one of the admins can chime in =)

I haven't looked at this Rep System yet, but here are the settings in the Admin's panel:

Enable User Reputation system = Yes
Set this option to 'Yes' if you want to enable the User Reputation system.

Number of Reputation Ratings to Display: = 5

Administrator's Reputation Power: = 10

Set to 0 to have administrators follow the same rules as everyone else.

For every X number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

Post Count Factor: = 1000
For every X number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

Reputation Point Factor: = 100
For every X points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

Minimum Post Count: = 50
How many posts must a user have before his reputation hits count on others?

Minimum Reputation Count: = 10

Reputation User Spread: = 20
How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again? Administrators are exempt from this limit.

Reputation Level Minimum Reputation Level

User is infamous around these parts = -999999
User can only hope to improve = -50
User has a little shameless behaviour in the past = -10
User is an unknown quantity at this point = 0
User is on a distinguished road = 10
User will become famous soon enough = 50
User has a spectacular aura about = 150

(I think these label descriptions are lame)

In other words, you're in complete control of the formula. :) Thanks for clearing it up. Seems like a nice new feature that we didn't used to have.

These are all the preset settings. We can adjust it accordingly.

I haven't take the time to try and understand it yet.

If you click on User CP on the top left corner that is where you'll see rep points. I'll give you a rep so you can see =)

On some of the other V bulletin boards I visit they use the same descirptors for reputation as TRS has.

in the last reputation received box in your user CP, it'll show what thread you were repped in, by who, and if the user left comments it'll show those as well

I think every one of us should use Jim as the test Dummy, every rep him one time and see how many rep points he needs before his green power bar changes.

Based on the descriptors though I would say that ...

10= 1 green bar
50=2 green bars
150=3 green bars etc.

it only shows up if you've been repped, so if no one has given you any, then it won't show up

It's not a perfect system. Up until a couple a few weeks ago, I thought all the rep I was giving was anonymous. I've never given anyone any negative rep, but I still think it should be anonymous. As long as it isn't, there's always the potential for it to be used improperly. It's still a cool feature, though.

You start at zero. Look at guys with just a couple posts, they all have zero.

Ahhhhh...you're right...I was guessing...and they all say "....is on a distinguished road.."

I thought it would change after it went up...to something like "....is getting closer to Nirvana...." but we're not there yet...

I dont know if this will help anyone figure teh method to the madness, but Maybe seeing all the aspects in one place, will help someone get a direction.
I deleted teh names of my contributors cause some people do want the anonymous coolness.

Seriously, does anyone decide if someones post is true or false based on a little mysterious number in the lower left corner? The validity of what someone says should be based on the content of their post, and how others respond to it. We've proven here that "rep power" is less than accurate and doesn't carry much weight.

yeah i get the feeling that it's not used here much. on some other sites i'm on it's a lot more important, and people will rep helpful posts. when everybody has the same rep because no one uses it, rep power isn't as helpful.

i think it's a cool feature though, and i bet as time goes on it'll be more used/important
