still hard to put gas in

please help! i was having problems pumping gas into my truck. i could get only a few cents at a time then it would stop. someone on here told me to start pumping gas with the nozzle upside down. that seemed to help for a while but its now cutting off with the nozzle upside down. What's the deal?
 
plugged filler neck vent is my guess. if you look behind the fuel door you'll find a large hose and a smaller one. the smaller one is the tank vent for refuelling. if its not venting then gas pump will sense the tank pressure is too high and thinks it full.
 
My dads 07 POS silverdo had the issue. I got under the truck and noticed rocks jammed in the undercarrage pinching the fuel line. I pulled the rocks out and problem solved
 
thanks guys i'll get under it and take a look.
 
i can't see anything that is obstructing it. i'll look more tomorrow when i change the fuel filter.

no obstructions that i can see. should i take the rubber hose off and see if it's clogged?

yeah put first hit the fuel shutoff switch, try to start and Remove gas cap to release fuel pressure first.
 
I believe in an 2003(maybe its same as mine?) the fuel shutoff switch is located under the dash on passenger side. like I said thats where it is on a 1999 but I think 2003 is the same
 
i could be an ass and recommend running a metal rod down your filler neck and bust the one way ball in your filler neck out. on most vehicles (could be wrong on this one) there is a ball that as the tank gets full it closes off the opening so it makes your pump click and turn off. friend of mines was stuck halfway and would make it almost impossible to pump fuel, rammed a rod down it and took care of it. the only problem with that is gas will pour out if your not careful since there isnt anything to slow the fill to shut the pump off. some vehicles have screens in there as well it could be full of trash, only way to kno is to pull the filler neck out of the truck and look. this usually involves a tank drop or bed pull to do.
 
i had the same problem in my 94 also and it was pretty bad, wierd thing is that I added a fuel additive and some how it fixed the problem. hey its worth a try and cant get any easier.
 
my 2000 explorer does this. if i stick the gas nozzle too far into the tank, it'll activate the cutoff on the gas nozzle. i think it is really thin and fills up too quick and tricks the gas pump into thinking that the tank is full. all you have to do is back the gas nozzle out a little bit and it should flow just fine.

thats what i do on my 05
