My little brother has 1990 BII with a manual T-case. He put it in 4hi and went to go drive and it wouldn't move. He tried 4lo and neutral and it's like there is an Emergency brake in the Transfer Case. He put it back into 2hi and still can move, it's like the Tcase locked up on him.
Any suggestions? Fluid maybe?

see if it has fluid. this sounds like a severe problem with some carnage of some kind to be found inside. i am thinking you will need to pull it and tear it down.

was there any noise made usually if something seizes up it doesn't go quietly. a grind would be stripped gears, a clank and slap could be a busted chain. either way it ain't looking good for you

PS have you checked the brakes before you go into the t-case it would be a good idea to. jack it up put it in neutral and turn the tires.

Did he have the steering wheel turned sharply on pavement?

No noise, No steering, he said he was just sitting in the driveway, put it in 4hi and couldn't move. He said it went in fine with no noises, just like the regular click you would hear, he said that when he put it in 4hi, it seemed like it applied the Ebrake, in 2hi with the hubs unlocked the front driveshaft won't turn, should it? I believe it should
Crazy I know. Thanks for the help guys

yes the front driveshaft should turn. it should turn fairly smoothly and with out too much difficulty. sounds like the carnage is in the front diff. pics?

A transfer case failure could lock up the front driveshaft too.

ok i should have said that its more likely that the problem is in the diff. much more likely.

if you put it up in the air and lock the hubs, does the differential work?

Thanks for all the replies guys, very helpful. TRS is awesome.
I just got back and my little brother (not too mechanically inclined) didn't know what to do. I filled the T-case up with fluid and rocked it back and forth and it is now working. The fluid just got too low, easy fix.

I guess we now know the symptoms of low fluid!!

That was retarded. DOH!:buttkick:
