as the title says i'm only adding a muffler, i don't want no ricey sound and i want it loud so people down the roa ould hear me coming
what mufflers have you guys used in the past or currently to get the sound i'm looking for
this is going on a auto

take off the muffler, leave the cats and put a down pipe on, see how that sounds. sounds better that a 40 on my 2.9

What I did on my 4.0 is left the cats and resonator only. The exhaust dumps out on the side under the passenger seat. It's protected by my t-case skid plates so I don't have to worry about munching it on a trail obsticle.

It has a nice throaty sound, but isn't obnoxously loud.

I disagree, straightpipes are all noise and no tone, flow 40s sound way better.

like the title says i'm just changing out the muffler so sound slike i want a flowmaster 40 series

i guess on yours since you took off both cats, but i still have one. Sounds good to me, nice growl below 2500 rpm. The 40 sounded like a ricer burner alot more than my current setup at high rpm. It also depends if theres a downpipe on it or not since mine is dumped. the 40 was kind of annoying at idle cause it would rumble like hell, no muffler with a downpipe is actually quieter. 40 with a downpipe and you cant hear anything, like a stock exhaust

me too, theyre good mufflers, i like the fact that they never go out. i have a 40 ill put it on eventually when i get a new high flow cat so itll sound more like hansb2. it just doesnt sound good right now.

what 40 series do you guys use
40 series delta flow
super 40 or
super 44?

Even with cats I think it sounded better than straigh pipe...

And DOTY, just the regular 40 series.

I have a super 44 on my 4.0 5 speed and it sounds awsome.

cherrybomb turbo 2 on the 4.0 exiting before rear tire. not really too loud but loud enough and it sounds good to me. but must add i've blown out a few in my time lol not really the best workmanship, but cheap and good enough for me.

im running a delta 40 on my4.0 SOHC. its rumbly but it isnt crazy loud. it has a clean sound to it.
