On my 88 ranger I was trying to get my reverse lights to work but just can't seem to figure out the problem. I have checked the wiring and if you jump the wires together they will come on. Could it be a bad :dunno:switch or something in the transmission. Any info would be appreciated.

I was jumping the wires at sensor at the tansmission.

If you jump across the terminals of the reverse light switch (it's on the driver's side at the top of the trans) and the reverse light work where they didn't before, then the switch is bad.

Okay I checked the switch by pulling it out and with the wires hooked up I pushed the ball on the switch and the lights worked. So could their be a spring or ball missing in the transmission if so what. I did buy the truck used about a year ago. Thank for any info !!!

Is this a recent problem or have the reverse lights not worked since you got the truck.? If recent then likely a problem with the switch itself. Or make sure the switch is pushed as far as it can go into the hole in the transmission, and is firmly secured there.

However, I suspect it is a problem with the switch itself. Perhaps you can take the switch apart and determine why it is not sensitive enough to complete the circuit.

The problem has been their since i've own the truck , I think I'll pickup a new switch and see how it works. Thank for your Input really appreciate it.
