hey i just bought a 92 ranger 2.9 and its leakin coolent. it looks like its coming from the water pump and i think the head(were it comes toghether) does anyone kno of this problem or can help me fix it.

water pump could be a leaking gasket or a worn out pump leaking from the weep hole

head leak could be a blown head gasket.

if you do the water pump be Very careful with the bolts they break very easy. I would replace them all when you get them out.

+1 for replacing the bolts. Don't be tepted to run the old ones in the holes to clean them out. A guy here ruined his block doing that when the old bolt broke off and he could not get it out. If you clean the holes with a thread chaser, be careful with that to and don't turn it to hard. Give the old bolts a good spray of WD and let em sit for a while. Be sure to coat the new bolts with antisieze before you put them in, makes it easier to take apart for the next guy, but take care not to ovetighten them as they are now lubircated! LOL!

I am willing to bet the gasket is rotten or it is comming out of your weep hole on the bottom of the pump. If so the pump seal is hozed and or the pump has cavitation damage to the impeller throwing it out of ballance. Its and easy job to do, just be careful if you have to pull the fan attaced to the front of it as it comes off with reverse rotation threads.

Good luck putting on a new pump and gaskets!
