Most premature bearing failures are due to incorrect preload when they are installed.

Are you running stock rims?
Instead of shelling out the cash to get AVM hubs, I would recommend this instead.

I have a ranger Im about to do the wheel bearings on, It requires different grease than 2wd due to the possible higher temps, but if you use the valvoline syntheitic or semi synthetic grease you shouldnt have a problem. i would pull all the parts clean it with diesel to get ALL the dirt out and make sure to properly repack the bearings.
My only question is what is preload? I assumed the bearing were 'pressed' into place on installment and everything went back to gether, I dont see hwere its adjustable.

Unit type bearings are pressed together but there is usually something that keeps them together when they are installed (shaft for instance) and whatever holds them together has a torque figure that is very important, too tight and the bearings are damaged immediately, too loose and the bearing will eventually work its way slightly apart and fail later. Torque figures are published for a reason, not just to keep some of us entertained for a while.
