I once knew a guy way back in the mid-90's who had a ranger 4x4, think it was an 86 or 87 and he had it modded beyond belief. What I remember most of all was It had a Dana 60 rear axle with 4:10 gearing and a DRW coversion, The guy had had the frame somehow made to be fully boxed, and it had a 6V-53T detroit diesel engine with stacks in it, and it was LOUD! One other thing I remember was it had a standard trans. with an overdrive, not sure which make or model. Oh, and it was the ugliest sulfuric yellow (owner called it that) I had ever seen. Anyone ever heard of another detroit diesel swap?

Never heard of a 6v53 in a ranger. That motor is huge it completely fills up the engine bay on a fullsize I would have liked to seen that.

I agree with 1bad, that is a big engine for a Ranger, not to mention that it is heavy as hell. It tachs out at 2100 aprox, so he had to have it geared big time.
