daily driver or trail rig?
i assume from the 38s that its a trail rig. if so then spool.

on the other hand, your sig. says you have a ranger on 39s so is this meant to be a daily? if so definatly leave the L/S so that you will actually be able to turn.

no it has 38.5X11R15 tires. I cant decide to call them 38s or 39s:) It is a trail rig. My 2wd is my DD. My trail rig gets driven about 1 time every 2to3weeks. Probably less than 50 miles round trip to my offroad spot. I will sometimes take it out to drive the wife around but besides that it sits. I am just worrying about shearing an axleshaft. But I dont plan on putting alot of miles on it. Prob less than 1500 a year on road. I keep tires at 30psi on road and 10-12 offroad.

You'll have better chances of gernading the carrier with the minispool than an axle shaft i'd think. It'll put alot of stress on the center pin and the carrier which is the weak part of the stock 8.8

c-clip mini-spools suck (they are not a solid chunk of metal like non-c-clip ones), just weld it.

I would suggest upgrading to a 31 spline (Explorer) axle though. As was mentioned, thats a lot of tire for the 28 spline shafts & having it welded.

Also, go with 5.13 gears.

Just weld it. You wont find a mini-spool that will fit an L/S case anyways. Be prepared for shit to break too.

Im with welding it.

If done right its stronger and cheaper then a mini spool.

ok then i will weld it. I have seen two types of welded spiders. One is weld the spider gears solid together. One of my mud track friends says he welds 4 teeth skips 4 teeth on each spider gear so you get about 1/4 of a revolution before it locks up. What do yall think?

The best way is to weld the spiders together and to the side of the carrier. That way it takes stress off of the crosspin.
