o.k. this is probably a stupid question. I have an 87 2.9 with a mitsu 5sp, these trany's suck, I'm on my forth one in 5 years and I don't do any remotely hard off-roading. I travel for work and I cant be shifting while I'm on the phone and looking at papers, which I probably shouldn't be doing anyway. What, if any, auto can I bolt up to my motor directly? wiring I don't care about. I just don't want to have to change my fly wheel or crank. also i would like to use my same drive shaft. this is probably all wishful thinking......

the a4ld auto is weak also but will bolt in.use the auto cpu with it

If you don't want to change your flywheel, you simply CANNOT put ANY automatic transmission in. Just how were you planning on securing the torque converter?

yeah i thought that but i figured if he really wanted to do the swap he 'd realize that fact once it was apart.

Stay with a manual transmission or you will still probably be changing them frequently. Just use the Mazda transmission and buy a hands free device for your cellular. I believe there is a C5 transmission that is probably next to impossible to find that will bolt to your 2.9 if you are set on switching to an automatic.
