Is the 96 3.0 to 98 swap possible?

I wrecked my 1996 ranger xlt extended cab and found a clean 1998 xlt ext. cab with a bad motor. I would love to swap my well maintained engine into this truck, but i'm not sure it will work.

If it is flex fuel capable the 8th digit of the vin will be a V, if not it will be a U.
