I have an 86 ranger 4x4, 2.9L 5spd, and for some reason, my keys wouldnt work in my key lock cylinder, so the truck wouldnt start. The key would not turn the cylinder at all. So i bought a new one to replace it, but i cant figure out how to get the old one out. I have searched the web, but have come up empty. I'm assuming im gonna have to do some drilling, since the key wont turn at all, but i dont wanna screw something up. Experienced car guy, just not sure what im doing here.....any help is reeeeeeally appreciated.

thanx alot

***edit*** the keys worked for years, then just a few days ago, decided to stop :)

Well, for obvious reasons it's a noisy PITA.

You'll have to drill out the cylinder. It will only come out by turning it.

how far do i drill.....just until it turns? anything else i need to do? theres a little steel pin that is cast into the side on the cylinder...its on the new one to. do i need to drill/remove this? it looks like i may....?

soke it down with WD40 frist, mite lose'n the tumbler's and get it to work, then put in the new one.
