If you're serious, an Explorer 5.0 bolts right in, stock Ex mounts and all.
I believe they are 215 horse, close to 300ft-lbs?
But they sound way cooler than your 4.0

Cruise control in '97 and older has nothing to do with the ECU, later years may be be similar... Mine works great.
