I have a 4x4 88 ranger with 33s on it with stock gears
im looking to regear cuz it has a hard time going 65 i know there is a gear to tire chat but im still not sure what would be a gear set of gears for off road and highway drive is a 4:56 good

4.56 and 33 is a good combo, Thats what I have been running, slightly lower than stock
(I started with 3.73) for a 2.9, if you have the 4 banger, maybe 4.88.............

You can check your gearing on your rear axle tag or on the door tag.....

yeah i got a 2.9 so did you change the gears your self
just wonder if they just swap for the odd ring and pinion or if they is any other work you have to do

when changing gears, they have to be precisly set up to within a couple thousanths of an inch.

yeah i know you have to set the lash and shit with a feeler gage but just wounder if the same carrier can be use with no fabs.

Yes, you can use the same carrier, but if you think you need feeler gauges alone for this, you're going to screw up your gears.
