Redneck Engineering, Undercoating the factory carpet?

Alright, Hear me out prior to calling me dumb. I know it sounds a bit ridiculous. My factory carpet is horrible, very dirty, and stained. I'm always wearing boots, and always drag something into the carpet. I was looking around for a new rubber floor mat like I put in my 99 4x4 ranger, however I've yet to find one. I considered pulling the carpet, and just coating the floor, but for HVAC reasons, I'd like to keep the insulation. I have some kick ass undercoating I get from work, and was thinking I could just spray the carpet, and essentially getting the floor I want, while keeping the insulation. Any comments? I'm trying to keep from spending the 150 bucks on a new floor matt. Nothings wrong with mine persay, it's just gross, and last thing I plan on doing is putting carpet back in it
 
Hell, sounds like a very cost effective and feasible plan to me. It might end up taking more undercoating than you think, with it absorbing into the carpet a little. I bet it will work well and dampen a lot of the sound that comes through the floor. Post pics of it for sure. :icon_thumby:
 
Thats what I figured. It's just old carpet. If it turns out like crap then I'll throw it away
 
It's an idea, document it if you do I'd like to see it. But before you go through all that trouble take the carpet out and power wash it. I've seen some really nasty carpets come out like brand new by doing this. If you are not happy with those results undercoat it.

My main concern is that my boots just grind mud into them, and when your feet are sopping wet, let alone have stick mud all over them, your floor mats can only accomplish so much.
 
Ha, no, it's 20 degrees here. I can't even work on my fastback, and its in the garage!

Yeah, I see your point, a vinyl floor would be the best bet. I'd like to get my hands on one as well. (Though I haven't really looked much.)
 
I say do it, but you may still want to take the carpet out and clean it first so the bed liner sticks to it better
