I cant figure out the gear ratio for my 97 4x4 explorer sport the tag is rusty and the door axle code is 42. that code is not in the axle index if anyone know what ratio this is I would really enjoy this info thanx.

You can figure it out the old fashoned way. Spin the axle shaft and count the revolutions of the pinion. 3.55s seem to be very common in these axles for some reason. Spin the axle and watch the pinion closely, you should have 3.55, 3.73 or maybe 4.10.
