Im doing a V-8 conversion on a 2wd 96 ranger with a 4.0l in it it also has a manual trans but that will be leave to make room for a four speed manual i was just wondering how easy it is. ive done some work on my dodge and other 91 ranger and 93 f-150 but nothing this big. so any pointers will be greatly apreciated.

Skill Level? ....it all depends on what kinda plans you have. Do you plan to go with EFI ? if so then some type of electrical experience and ability to understand wireing will be a big help. If runing carb thne your biggest problem is making it fit. Do you plan to custom fab things to make it work, or buy things to do the conversion?

A 2wd is the easy one. Being you want a manual that adds a little difficulty but not much. What 4 speed are you talking about? A toploader or a fullsize like the T18/19 or NP435? This all can be done without a welder. All you need are some basic tools; sockets, wrenches, a hammer, drill, a hoist of some sort, a jack, screwdrivers, a grinder and a prybar. If you have more than that and access to power tools it will only be faster and easier. That and some basic knowledge and a creative attitude you'll be fine. The only welding that is involved is a driveshaft and exhaust. The rest can be accomplished with basic tools if need be.
