I just got a recall notice from Ford.
"Ford casnnot be cinfident that over many years in service, the type of Speed Control Deactivation Switch (SCDS) equipped on your vehicle will not leak, posing the risk of an underhood fire. This condition may occur either when the vehicle is parked or when it is being operated, even if the speed control is not in use."
Heads up, I guess...

I think they had the same problem with some full size f 150 and broncos. Met a guy his 96 bronco burned up while it was parked in his driveway. Pretty scarry.

this is a very easy problem to avoid. the deactivation switch is on the end of the brake master cylinder, in clear view. simply pop your hood occasionally (i suggest at least every time you fuel up) and check the switch for indication of a leak. if it stays dry, no worries. if it starts leaking replace it immediately. FYI, ford "fix" appears to be just a fusible link that plugs in between the switch and wiring harness.

I received the same recall notice in the mail today. I'm planning on getting my truck into a dealership asap. I almost have one payment left on it, all I need now is for it burn itself down.

Yeah, the dealerships are suppose to fix it at no cost for parts and labor. I just figured I should post this for those who havn't gotten the notice yet

I suppose this recall will only be sent to those that still have their trucks under warranty.
Even not, I still don't quilify. Vaccum cruise control (Genuine Ford aftermarket add-on), it de-activites by the brake light signal, clutch switch, and vaccum release on the brake pedal.

Went in for the recall today, took about 5 minutes. They just put in a fuse-able link where the wiring harness plugs into the brake reservoir. Aren't recalls sent to everyone Ford has on record as owning the vehicles in question? I know it's not just for trucks under warranty, mine sure isn't.

No they go back regardless of warrenty, my '02 was just out before I got my notice in September to have it disconnected until parts came in first during November, then February.
I don't think it goes back 1992 Rangers, just 1998.

I got one for my 2002 F-250, and it was not anywhere near warranty status.
The fix, looks half assed at best. Now I have a huge wiring harness zip tied upon itself.
