I always get the rough Country, and Tough country lifts confused, but the reason the tech library says it doesn't work with the D35 front axle, is because the cheaper lifts, use a "drop plate" for the passenger's side beam. This basicly drops your current ibeam bracket down, to accomodate the lift (in your case 3").
The more expensive lifts, like Skyjacker, use a "drop bracket", which replaces your stock passengers side beam mount, and is entirely one piece, rather than using the plate to move your stock mount down (doing the same job, but stronger, and better engineered, because it is 1 piece, not 2).
This drop plate does not have enough clearance for the D35 housing, and when the suspension cycles up and down, it come into contact with the bracket, and punch a hole in the side of the diff.
All in all, if it is a street queen, you should be fine with the drop plate, as far as not damaging the diff. But if you offroad at all, or jump the truck even a little bit, I would steer way away from the drop plate style lifts.
