If you really have to move it, just crawl underneath and move the lever on the side of the tranny. There are notches (kinda some clicks) that the lever goes through. I think if you push it forward that is park. Just pull it all the way to the back and then forward 2/3 notches (OD, or D) and you are good to go. I found that out one night in the rain after work. If it doesn't move becuase the (in cab) shifter has to be pull towrd you to so you don't go from N to reverse, Just disconnect the little plastic ball joint thingy that is on the lever. For me, the cable that goes from the handle to that lever broke.
I am assuming it is the same design, maybe not exactly, but I would that same theorey would apply to your too.
As for replacing the shifter handle, I have no clue how to do that, sorry.
I hope that helped you with part of your problem.

No problem. Hope you can figure out how to replace/ remove that shift lever, I have a feeling it will be time consuming to take off.

Well I'm not sure about the Ranger but, most of the newer Fords have a stupid, die cast tube that runs parallel to the column. That tube breaks really easy. You can buy a new one from Ford and fix it quite easily.
