Lets see what everyone's network speeds are. To do such, go to www.speedtest.net and run a test. Then copy the Forum Link into a post.

Location: Charlestown, IN

Internet Provider: Insight Communications

Advertised Speed: 10 MBps

I am waiting for Insight to come out with their 30.0 service (30 MBps download speeds!). Once they do, I plan on upgrading to it.

If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.

that isn't true. that is the download if it is connected to the same site..... surfing speed is closer to 96k right now and it is pissing me off because they won't tech anything faster than 80k..... how do you guys with dial up keep from committing suicide out of boredom?

and I am not 50 miles from South Bend ...... I might be 50 wire miles but physically it is only 22 miles to down town South bend.

Don't have a clue what it's supposed to be (advertised), but I've never sworn at it because it was dial-up slow. It's AT&T DSL, fwiw.

I used to have AT&T DSL. I had a consistent 5.5 Mb/s downstream speed and a consistent 1.2 Mb/s upstream..... then I had to move and could no longer get DSL. Infact we will nver be able to get DSL here because the Manager (that lives off site) of the Trailer Park (thats right, BDAB is trailer trash..... been trailer trash for a year now) has a husband that is an exec for Comcast Cable. We cannot have DSL or Satellite or a T-1.

We cannot have DSL or Satellite or a T-1.
For a residential service, a T1 is WAY too expensive and way too slow. A true T1 has down and up speeds of 1.5 MBp/s. Majority of the broadband services is anywhere from 5 MBp/s and up on the down stream speeds.

Broadband companies invested in the downstream big in the early 2000's, but left out on their up streams. Now they are trying to play catch up with their up streams since sites like Photobucket, Facebook, and Myspace use more up stream than down to upload photos, etc.

We have a T1 at my office. It is used to carry our voice (VOIP phones) and data. It cost us right at $500 a month for the service. The good thing about T1 lines is that they are reliable, and that is what businesses need. If our line for some odd reason goes down, then I can have an AT&T (99% of all business traffic rides on AT&T lines, even if you have a different carrier. We have Nuvox at work) tech on site and working on it with in an hour. Our T1 at work is nice. It doesn't slow down when we have more people on it, it is constant.

we have 15down/1up at home. the upload is terrible and i get feel it when i'm gaming sometimes - i want FIOS quite badly. my ping is nice and low - right about 8ms as well.

time warner (what i have) just came out with a 50mb service - but it's only 5 up - i dont understand why anyone would pay $100 a month when you've only got 5mb up

My results were identical to mjones. And yes I use insight also. Does anyone else have ATT Uverse in their area? I was thinking about it, but honestly, cable still crushes it in price. I don't understand why they'd go through hoops to build up this big new system, only to price it out at more than the existing system...oh well...insight has been good to me. I only had one scuffle where I had to tell them to quit offering me home phone service or i'd cancel everything. Seriously, used to send flyers, phone calls, and even send people out here to my door offering home phone service. Home phone service is dead technology. I'd say as many as 90% of people who don't have it now don't want it.
