when shifting into 1st gear sometimes it takes multiple trys and when im at a light and put it in gear and let off the brake it starts rolling without even giving it gas. And sometimes when try to put it in reverse i have to force it in gear. And also when i shift from 3rd to 4th it grinds,if i shift very slow it goes in,but that gets annoying.what do you guys think the issue is? clutch or tranny?

anybody else have input? if it is the slave cylinder that means i have to get everything else changed too right? what kind of money is that going to cost. an arm and a leg im guessing

try bleeding the slave first, if that doesn"t do it replace clutch and slave. cost me 600 on my 97

yes, the slave is the more common culprit but there is always the chance it's the master.

You don't HAVE to replace the whole clutch but you'll have it apart anyway so you might as well.

Either the slave cylinder or pilot bearing, either way you'll have to drop the trans. IMO--replace everything in the bell housing: clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, slave cylinder and pilot bearing.

I just went through this with my 99'. Bought the complete kit for $275 to my door from clutch city online. Great outfit to deal with, all OE Ford parts.

Yeah, bleed the system first. If it's still doing it, it's probably a weak slave.

New Slave's are anyhwere from 50-100$. If the clutch isn't worn, I wouldn't replace it, if you dont have the funds.

RockAuto lists one for 47$....
