If you are running Vista or xp, it is worth the upgrade to get seven. Being a college student I get free versions of microsoft stuff. I just put windows 7 on my computer the other day upgrading it from xp and it's been great. My computer it running faster, games look prettier. I have nothing but compliments. Plus it was dirt simple to do. Yes, I didn't "pay" for it (darn tuition), but if I had to, I would in a heart beat.

Yeah I like it, but to me it's just not worth the $$ over Vista, as I'm one of the few who actually like Vista. If I was still on XP I'd jump on it in a flash (I've long since abolished all XP installs in my house)

Windows 7 Ultimate FTW. I built a computer and I used the release candidate. I love it.

its worth it if you ask me, but only if you have atleast 2gb...and thats quite minimum...it doesnt take up as much room as vista's 1gb of ram...but more than what xp did, so if you dont have a decent amount of ram, then it will still be very laggy, and not worth the upgrade.

My father just bought a computer that i recommended for him that has win7 and 6gigs of ram....it is absolutely amazing. the speed and all the "shiny new" things that you can do on win7 is absolutely shocking. :icon_thumby: :yahoo:

2GB? I have been running 7 Ultimate on a laptop that has 512MB of RAM and it is doing as good as my 4GB DDR3 desktop.

Yeah It scales pretty well with less RAM. I have an old dell with a P4 2.4 and 768 MB of RAM and 7 runs just as well as XP if not better.

Which 7?

Are you using 7 Home Premium or Ultimate?

I bought my netbook specifically with XP because a: My work apps are known to work on XP and b: 7 Starter edition won't even let you change the desktop background without a hack.

Windows 7 has a virtual machine XP on it. It will allow you to run a virtual XP so you can run all programs that will only work on XP.
