View Full Version : hard to put gas in
my 03 is giving me a hard time in that it's hard to fill with gas. i have to pump it really slow and it takes forever. Why can't i put it in faster? When i try the pump stops as though its full. It's driving me crazy please help me.

I work for an EMS service and we had an ambulance that did this once. The pipe that you stick the gas nosel into some how got kinicked restricting the volume of fuel that could pass through it. I would first check to ensure its not kinked or obstructed with anything.
that was the first thing i checked and there are no kinks or obstructions at all. i'm at a loss.

Mine did that once, in Oregon, where people have to pump it for you. It was weird, and the guy was confused. I kept telling him its no where near full, but it was doing that.

Turn the gas nozzle upside down. An old farmer around here taught me the trick.

:agree:
My moms van used to do the same thing. When ever I put gas in it I would have to rotate it up side down and rest it on the fuel door. Rotate the nozzle and see what happens.

Sounds like the tanks vent system is not working properly.

Thats what I was going to suggest. I had a work truck that did that, the truck spent a lot of time in the desert and the vent system plugged with dust.

Mine does it....... but I have a filler neck extension.
Just turn it 90 degrees........ I don't have to flip it all the way up side down.
Some pumps have a tighter backpressure tolerence than others.........

Did that on my 03' too. The only pumps that did it were the pump handles with the accordion like neck that seals the filler hole.
