Way too many variables on all the swaps, motors,transmissions, gears and such. Mild V-8 build, lot have gotten better mileage. Most don't do it for the mileage, of course.

If you're worried about mileage, you can't afford a V8 swap. You'll spend enough money in doing the swap to buy 1,000 gallons of gas. Then you'll burn at least half that in the first year before you can restrain your right foot from nailing the go pedal at every redlite.
