Im going to be installing a 8.8 L/S w/4.10 gears & my truck currently has 7.5 open w/3.45 gears. In making the swap does the speedo drive need to be changed?

My truck is 2wd currently & was all original when bought,4cyl ,5 spd,
225/70-14s,but now It has explorer leafs & 2" coil spacers along with explorer 4wd coils & 31x10.50-15s.

When I get around to converting to 4wd i'll be using a front end which has 4.10 gears from a 86 Comanche that I still have after the italian built trans blew apart.

i swapped myne from a 3.73 to 4.10 8.8 and didnt bother with the spedo gear, it ranges +5mph over the indicated speed. just use the speedo calc on the lib page, and guestimate, there only like 1 to 2 bucks from ford though if you really feel the need. i do beleive your going to need a new trans though. as the speedogears are on the tcase.

I'm using my stock speedo gear from running 195 75 14's with 3.08 gears on my truck now that has 4.10 gears and 31's, yours will probably be closer than mine is as mine is a little fast

its not hard to figure out what you need to change to and it takes all of 5 seconds to change. drives me nut not having the speedo right but thats just me

Well with my taller tires with the 3.45 gears I've got, I read about ten percent slower than what I'm actually doing. Most of the time when I'm out on a road trip I take the Garmin handheld GPS with me to tell me how fast I really am going.
