rough idle when cold

my 93 ranger 3.0, starts right up, but then idles at the right rpm, then almost dies down, then back to right rpm, back to almost dies down again etc. once it warms up a little it doesn't do it, the idle is perfect until the engine is totally cold again, any one has any ideas what it is that cause this? thanks

Are you using up coolant????

Try cleaning the IAC.

It controls idle.

whats your thoughts with the coolant issue dooms day, maybe a lower intake or head gasket leak? have you checked you vaccum block off caps for cracking which would cause vaccum leak? my 2.3l suffers the same problem when slowing down, but i know i have a vaccum leak, i just havent had time or room in the garage to do anything about it.

i don't hear any vaccum leaks. all the cars that i have owned in the pass that had a vaccum leak ran rough all the time at idle

I was thinking you had this one ....

I would say the intake manifold need to be re torque to specs or the gasket is leaking which the valve are holding the coolant till the truck is started and then it dumps the coolant into the cylinders causing a missfire and as soon the coolant burns off or goes out the exhaust and then it runs fine...If it was a head gasket you would find coolant in the oil and there would be bubbles in the coolant bottle while the motor is running...
