i know this a stupid question but haynes does not give me the info that i need...my 96 ranger with 4wd and automatic locking hubs needs wheel bearing and i can't find the torque spec for the nut that hold the bearing in place please help!!!!

that 250# number is for manual hubs, auto hubs have the one big nut that is held in place with a little key thing, this setup just needs to be tight enough to give the bearings some preload, the key keeps things in place, and the rest of the parts keep the key in. when I set the ones I did I went to finger tight and tightened to the notch that fit closest to that.

Basically about 1/6 of a turn tighter than is required to make the perceptable play in the bearing disappear.
