Just bought something from SummitRacing, and for some unknown reason I was charged 3 dollars for something that I have no idea what it is.

What the hell is that?

Have any sort of security on your card? This is what I found with a quick Google search...

http://www.arcot.com/

Nope, no security at all and that's the first time I've ever gotten that buying anywhere.

I googled it too and it took me there as well, I could find nothing related to SFCU or Visa.

Some banks put holds on purchases until the transaction is complete. Summit Racing had nothing to do with the hold on your account. If you check it in a few days the hold should be gone with no extra money taken our of your account. The hold amount will be put back in your account. Also like Pete said you should NEVER use your debt card online.

call summit and ask them what it is

no debit online? why not? been using mine online for a year or so now and havent had any problems.

Alright, I'll wait and see.

And yes I know, debits are a no-no online. That's because of the whole being liable for fraudulent purchases thing correct? Well, I have no credit so I can't get a credit card. And doesn't paypal charge a fee?

Paypal is free.Have been using my Visa debt card with them for about 6 years now with no problems.

With a credit card you are held liable for up to 50 dollars, anything after that and your all set. They also leave paper trails.

Debit cards have no federal protection (that I know of) and are basically like cash. After a day, there's no evidence of where your money went. Just an address of where it went to originally if your lucky.

I always assumed they charged a percentage or something. I'll have to check them out.

It's free of charge and summit accepts paypal. It easier than having to put all your information everytime you shop online.

ahhh ok, that all makes sense. Well i dont have a credit card and my debit hasnt had any problems yet. I watch my money like a hawk though, so as for now, im fine. Ill get a credit someday but, im not ready right now.

Paypal allows you to dispute a charge with them also. Just like the bank.

You could use your debt card with paypal or link your checking account to it.

If you have a Visa debit you get the same protection as you do with a Visa credit card. I have two visa debits (one for my old account that my DD from my part time job is set up through, one for the joint account with the wife) and i have used both online for a total of about 3 years and have never had a problem. The bank or Visa frequently puts holds like that on the account, they disappear after about a day or two. I have only seen one last more than 3 days and that was on a back-ordered item. It didn't go away until the item shipped, but they didn't charge my account until the item came in and shipped.
