The engine is in, everything is mainly done now... So heres the layout of it all, 88 thunderbird 5.0, was efi, now carb'd with an edelbrock performer series intake and carb, and its in my 89 B2. I still have the Distributor that came originally on the motor and ive been looking for a cheap mechanical one over the weekend but if i could wire in just the distributor wouldnt i be able to use that? and couldnt i wire it into my 2.9 harness? anyways other than that im about done hope to be rollin this week sometime. thanks

Does it still have the TFI dist? HEI is about the only one you can hook up directly (2 wires since the ignition module and coil are in the distributor), the others need some sort of "brain" power between the distributor and the coil. Shouldn't need to have the 2.9L mainharness installed anymore. Vehicle specific diagrams are a huge help when wiring this stuff up. Also remember that cast gears go with flat tappet cams, and steel gears are used with roller cams (on the dist).

ok actually ive got a new question, everyone is probably gonna say this is a bad idea but if i cut the Pick up signal wire on the distributor, with my 5.0 computer plugged into the 2.9 harness which is plugged into my distributor would it screw up my timing? cuz without all the efi crap and sensors it will be throwing off my timing.

If your running a carb set up,what are you plugging in to the 2.9 comp?
On my 85 Ranger I found the hot from the switch and ran it to a ProComp coil and dist.(about $130 from ebay).

The comp. from the 2.8 went to the dump.
