ok ever since i bought this truck the back up lights have had a mind of there own. well about two years after i got the truck the turnsingle and the highbeams and lows beams switch went out. when i went to replace it i found that the wires had melted. so i cut the end off and attached them one by one to the switch. so i would not get them mixed up.

now to the present time. i went to fix my back up lights. i simly cut the wires off the tranny and hooked them up to a switch in the cab still no lights? so i tested wires for juice at the switch no juice. so i tested it at the back of the truck no juice. i took my stering colume apart and to my suprise i found a wire that is discolorded. the same one before. so i put my meter on it. one led on that wire and one in the engine bay and i found the wire. it is lose in the connector. i traced it all this time in the engine bay i found it leds to a relay.

ok here are my questions what does this relay do? and what would be the best way to fix the lose wire in the connector? and would this cause my back up lights not work.

sorry for the long post

You can buy a relay socket at the auto parts store and splice it in place of that one. Keep track which color wire goes to which relay terminal number printed on the relay (and buy a new relay too). Might need a magnifier to read those #s. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/relays.html
