I am converting a '90 2WD ranger to a 4WD with donor axles & stuff from a '88 . . . Two things . . . first I noticed on top of the 2WD rear diff pumpkin there is a plug in . . . on the donor '88 rear it is not there . . . only a bolt & plug . . . what is the function of the plug in connector & would it be a good idea to remove & place on the 4WD axle ? Is it a speed sensor or ABS ??? Thanks

Yep, speed sensor for the rear ABS brakes.

Is that something I can just plug into the replacement rear diff & be ok ? Or can I just blow it off as unimportant and not find a way to make it work????

It should just plug right in if there's a plug on the axle. Your ABS obviously won't work without it plugged in, although it is only for the rear (probably wouldn't make all that huge a difference).
