Alternator Ground?

This is a quick and maybe stupid question. How does the alternator get grounded. I just cant figure out why my alt wont charge so this is about the only thing i can think of.

Through the aternator case which on all 4.0's is firmly bolted to the mounting bracket with three 10mm bolts

and the bracket is in turn bolted to the engine with another three bolts.

Presumably if the alternator isn't grounded neither is the engine block.

I believe there is also a ring connector around one of those bolts, but I agree with Allan that if the alternator isn't grounded, it's rather tough to make that happen if the engine block is.
