I have stumbled across a wrecked T Bird and it has an IRS setup. Has anyone ever tried to put one in a Ranger? The bird is a 95 and the Ranger is an 85. I know that IRS is not great for drag racing but my wife had a Merkur XR4Ti and that thing handled! I'd like to have that sort of handling in the "black truck".

its a lot wider than your rear end isen't it?thats the only reason i don't have the v-8 8.8 version in my 65 mustang

You don't happen to have the track width for the ranger and Tbird axles do you?

You should be fine. The wideth might be a little wider but fully capable of being used.

That was my original plan when putting air bags on my truck... but the money was not there at the time.

But if you are looking for handling... Would a little extra wideth not be a good thing ? And really there is nothing a fender flare can not fix.

I just emailed my instructor from trade school. He has a 95 T bird with an IRS. He's going to measure the track width for me. Once I have the dimensions, I'll be able to decide whether or not to do this conversion. I just don't want the rear wheels sticking out too far. Thanks guys

if you look at t-birds you'll see the rim is inset a lot more than your truck.tell your teacher to measure hub to hub.

I've seen it done, the guy who did it flaired the bedsides to clear the wheels, but then again it was bagged and tucking the wheels, I imagine you won't run into that issue. Obviously its going to take some heavy modification to the frame.

Cut it, Cut it, Cut it. I had some fun when I got to cut my truck up.

I say you definately need to put this on your truck.

The T Bird axle is 58" give or take. I know this sounds lazy, but I'm writing this from my sick bed...can someone measure a Ranger rear axle for me?
